MTG Insurance | Bobtail Insurance Group

Bobtail insurance protects semi truck owners when you’re not hauling a trailer or other load. Having this coverage in place will help to ensure that you are covered between trips (like after dropping a load and heading to your next pick up, or driving home in your tractor) and for non-business purposes (like running personal errands, as long as the trailer is not attached). Bobtail insurance is meant to bridge the coverage gap created when you are no longer protected by your motor carrier’s policy.

What is Physical Damage Coverage?

Physical damage insurance provides protection to your vehicle in the case of loss or damage such as collision, vandalism, fire, and theft. Physical damage coverage is comprised of two types: Collision and Comprehensive.

Collision Coverage will help to repair or replace your truck if it is damaged in an accident. Comprehensive Coverage applies to non-collision damages and theft.

Physical damage insurance is vital for owner-operators to protect your investment in the event that your truck is damaged.

What coverages do I need as an Owner-Operator?

Non-Trucking Liability

What is Bobtail Insurance?

Bobtail insurance, also known as “Non-Trucking Liability” insurance, protects semi-truck owners when driving your truck for personal use. Having this coverage in place will help to ensure that you are covered while not under dispatch and driving for non-business purposes (like running personal errands, going to get the truck washed or tires rotated, etc.). Non-Trucking Liability insurance is meant to bridge the coverage gap created when you are no longer protected by your motor carrier’s policy.

What limit do I need?

The motor carrier lease agreement you sign as an owner/operator will typically state your policy’s limit. In most cases, that limit is $1 million in non-trucking liability.

What is ACV?

Actual Cash Value (ACV) is a way of determining a value for insuring property with its depreciation taken into consideration. This is calculated by taking a percentage of the property’s useful life left multiplied by its replacement cost. ACV is basically what you can get for a tractor or trailer which is like in kind, make, model, mileage and appearance off of a truck dealers lot. So what the truck or trailer is worth on the open market. This is how an adjuster would determine the value in the event of a loss.

What is Occupational Accident Coverage?

Occupational Accident Coverage provides benefits to independent contractors involved with job-related accidents. In the trucking industry, Occupational Accident Coverage provides benefits to owner-operators who are considered independent contractors by state law.

Do you offer coverage for fleets of Owner-Operators?

Absolutely, please contact us for more information.

Should I package my insurance with my truck payment?

This is personal preference, but most times insurance coverage can be found much cheaper if bought separately. Adding to your truck payment in most cases, potentially is raising your overall costs.

If I change trucking companies, can I keep my insurance?

Of course. Non-Trucking Liability Insurance follows the driver regardless of who they drive for.

Can you quote Primary Liability Coverage for my Trucking Company?

We would love to have the opportunity to quote Primary Liability Coverage. Please contact us.

What payment options are available for my insurance premium?

We offer multiple ways for payment including credit card and monthly EFT withdrawals.
